The Wiener Stephansdom
The Stephansdom, Vienna's cathedral
is one of the tallest churches in the world., is
located in the 1st district and is affectionately called "Steffl" by
most austrians. . The building ist 107
Meter meters long and 34 meters broad. The cathedral is one of the most important Gothic buildings in Austria. Parts of the lateRoman building of 1230/40 1263 are still
original. Stephansdom has four towers, the
highest south-tower is 136,4 meters high. On
both sides of the main entrance are the "Heidentürme"which
are approximately 65 meters high. Durign the
monarchy it was not allowed to build higher
buildings than the south-tower. The Pummerin in
the north-tower is the secondly largest freely swinging church-bell of Europe.
Who is able to go up the 343
stairs of the south tower has a great view over
vienna!

The Wiener Prater - The Wiener Riesenrad
The Wiener Riesenrad was built for the 50. anniversary of Kaiser Franz Josefs I.
in 1897.
It burned down 1944 and in 1945 it was rebuilt at the same time as Stephansdom and the state opera. It started again in 1947.
The highest point is 64,75 m over ground, the weight of the construction is 430 tons.
When you buy a ticket for
the Wiener Riesenrad, you will get also a great view
over Vienna!
It is not such a big effort ( in comparison with the
343 stairs of the Stephansdom).
